Bird houses have a charm of their own as they are a blend of beauty and
function. A garden decorated with birdhouses complements the surroundings
and makes it seem more peaceful and mystical as the beauty of these bird
houses blends with the natural beauty of its surroundings.
Decorative bird houses made of wrought iron or metal come in a variety of
shapes and sizes. Most of the wooden birdhouses are also embellished with
metal roof and weather vane. Since metal heats up easily under the sun, Most
of the birdhouses are a blend of wood and metal work. Some of the bird
houses are given the antique look by using patio paints which come in a
variety of colors including wrought iron black paint. Wrought iron products
such as heart hangers are placed on the wooden birdhouses to give them an
antique look.
Finish
The finish of a bird house should be carefully executed as iron needs to be
protected from rust and this is carried out by the process of galvanizing in
which a thick metallic zinc envelope completely covers the steel surface and
seals it from the corrosive action of its environment.
Powder Coating can be applied after the galvanization process in order to
make the birdhouse look more attractive .
Other wrought iron finishes such as Zinc phosphate black primer, Zinc
phosphate red oxide primer, Zinc phosphate primer plus gloss black, Black or
White powder coated, Galvanized and Black or White powder coated etc. are
also suitable anti-rust finishes.
Black is the most durable finish as continued exposure to wind and rain may
result in small spots of rust getting exposed over a period of time.
