Creative Recycling- How to Go Green
with Wrought Iron Crafts?

With all the knowledge of environment pollution, its a high time now that everyone goes green by reusing and recycling everything possible. Wrought iron is, in fact, one material which itself is environmental friendly. From among the two types of wrought iron, the irons of antiquity known as "charcoal iron," had been produced prior to 18th century. The other type of iron, the "puddled iron" was produced in the 19th century and early 20th century.

What is now done is re-rolling of wrought iron through techniques of restoration. This material doesn't have to be produced any more, thus no energy is spent in this process. In this sense if you do wrought iron decor at your home, you are in fact, acting green and positively contributing to the cause of environment. However, when using wrought iron products, they are bound to get rusted and even you might get bored with them (remember they are etra durable). So how can you creatively recycle all your wrought iron crafts? Lets explore!

Reusing Wrought Iron Gazebos:

If you have been using pop-up gazebos for barbecues in the garden, that has a polyester or some other similar cover over a wrought iron tube frame, you can reuse them after the cover is damaged. Use the poles instead of canes around the garden. The poles can also be used as basis for making window blinds. They can easily cater to the needs of fairly large windows. Alternatively, the frames can be cut down to the size needed. Then, they can be covered with net for bird protection. That sounds like a great wrought iron garden decor idea! Revamping Old Wrought Iron Furniture:

If you have really got bored with your grandfather's wrought iron coffee table, don't think of replacing it, just revamp it. Here's how you can do it. Give the table a fresh coat of white paint or any other colored paint of your choice. Now you can mosaic it if you want it to hold some weight too. You can cover it with recycled glass, old bottle caps, or even broken ceramics or tiles. All these would have been thrown as garbage but can be used to get an all new decorated wrought iron table, with no extra money but only a little effort!

Reusing Wrought Iron Hardware:

If you have some of the wrought iron hardware lying around then they can be used more purposefully. If you have some shower curtain rings made of this metal, you can glue them together and seal them properly to make votive holders. They can even be used as napkin rings and holders. Unruly plants in the garden can be tied back with the help of towel rings. Smaller rings like those in drawer pulls can be strung together length wise and be used in place of beaded curtains. Paints of different colors can be sprayed on them for giving more decorative look.

Acting Responsibly for Wrought Iron Recycling:

Before disposing of any wrought iron product, one must always think and act on options available for wrought iron recycling. There are many companies who are capable of re-rolling wrought iron to make the material available to blacksmiths for the restoration of ironwork. They buy all sorts of items like anchor chain, redundant wrought iron railings from parks, schools and other places. They also pay price more than any scrap merchant. If, anyway, you are not interested in taking so much pain for finding these companies, you must at least hold a garage sale and invite as many neighbors and friends as possible. This way you can get rid of things you don’t need and at the same time you give away these things to someone who could use them.
